2025 Interior Trends: What Did I Bring Back from “Maison & Objet”?

You can listen to a short LNK “Labas vakaras, Lietuva” report here, and below – a cascade of images from the international interior exhibition that took place at the end of January.

I returned from Paris with my head full of impressions and inspiration. “Maison & Objet” is not just an exhibition – it’s the pulse of the entire interior design world, a whisper of what will soon fill our homes and remain fashionable for years to come. This year, luxury is strongly felt, but it doesn’t scream with excessive shine – instead, it manifests through textures, colors, and masterful craftsmanship.

Natural Materials and the Art of Craftsmanship

Wood (especially rare species like walnut, Karelian birch, and cedar), stone (marble, onyx still reign supreme), and handcrafted details are the elements taking center stage this year. Everything must be authentic, solid, and tell a story. Even industrial-style objects are becoming softer – metal is painted in warm, vibrant colors, and aged rust-effect finishes are frequently used.

Furniture as Sculptures: Design Becomes Art

In 2025, there are no accidental objects in interiors – every piece of furniture or décor is like a refined work of art. Soft, curved shapes blend with strict geometric lines, while natural materials meet futuristic accents. Sofas resemble abstract sculptures, tables, coffee tables, and consoles appear as if handcrafted by artisans, and light fixtures become architectural highlights. These are not just functional objects but expressive interior elements that invite admiration as much as use.

Rounded Shapes: Soft or Sharp?

Rounded edges in hard furniture, oval and elliptical tables – curves remain very popular. However, more balance is introduced: organically shaped chairs are paired with sharper, more rectangular tables, and vice versa. This keeps interiors elegant yet dynamic and never dull.

Color Palette: Serenity and Depth

If you haven’t yet fallen in love with earthy tones, now is the time! Rich, deep shades – moss green, muted blue, and burnt orange – harmonize beautifully with natural materials, creating a comfortable and refined atmosphere. For the bold, contrasts are the way to go: dark walnut paired with elegantly light stone brings a sophisticated touch.

Art That Speaks: Interior Details with Soul

In 2025, art becomes an inseparable part of a space – not just as an additional accent or decorative element but as a central design feature. Instead of chaotic decoration, a thoughtful, refined integration of art takes place: large-format paintings, sculptural objects, and textured wall panels that themselves become works of art. Unique, handmade pieces – ceramics, glass installations, and textile art – are especially in demand.

Among the subdued, earth-toned color palettes, striking and provocative art emerges, gaining more expression through form and texture. This is art that does more than decorate – it evokes emotion, giving the interior a distinct character.

Walls – More Than Just a Backdrop

Wall coverings and décor make a powerful comeback, with vintage-inspired, repeating patterns reinterpreted in new ways. Walls become works of art themselves. Textured panels, wallpaper panels, and handcrafted decorative finishes create a unique spatial atmosphere, adding depth, character, and a luxurious feel. Marble-like patterns, relief surfaces, fabric imitations, and even interactive walls that change color with lighting – these are no longer just backdrops but active elements of interior design.

Sustainable Ideas in Interiors: Would You Dare to Sit on a Swan-Decorated Chair?

One of the most talked-about installations at this year’s “Maison & Objet” was a sustainability-inspired interior design concept. Here, furniture aesthetics blended with art and provocation: chairs and poufs decorated with ultra-realistic soft toys – swans, rabbits, platypuses – invited visitors to reflect on the fragility of nature and human responsibility. This project sparked lively discussions: can sustainability be luxurious? And are we ready to embrace sustainability as an integral part of design?

Bauhaus, “Squid Game,” and “Alice in Wonderland”: How Will These Ideas Shape 2025 Interiors?

In 2025, interiors will merge geometry, contrasts, and fairytale-like forms – all with a modern twist. Bauhaus makes a comeback with its functionality, clean lines, and geometrically considered spaces, but this time in warmer colors and natural materials.

The “Squid Game” aesthetic – brutalist minimalism, bold contrasts, and architectural play with scale – also finds its place in interiors. Expect daring color combinations (such as deep red against pastel tones), large monolithic forms, and unexpected visual effects that make spaces feel dynamic and theatrical.

Meanwhile, “Alice in Wonderland” brings surrealism into interiors – curved, almost fantastical shapes and playful proportions. Unconventional architectural details, mirrors that distort space, and soft furniture pieces resembling melting sculptures all help create a magical, dreamlike atmosphere.

This blend of three distinct ideas will result in an eclectic yet well-thought-out interior, where functionality meets playfulness, brutalism merges with fairytale-like elements, and classic design fuses with bold, futuristic solutions.

Will These Trends Find Their Way Into Our Homes?

Trends serve as inspiration, not rules. The key is to choose what resonates with your heart and creates a sense of home. If you love natural materials but are unsure about colors, start with textiles, rugs, or small accents. If you crave luxury, opt for fewer but higher-quality pieces. Let a central piece (a light fixture, coffee table, console, or artwork) stand out as a symbol of exceptional quality and craftsmanship – it will become the focal point, drawing all eyes toward it.
