The impact of quarantine on interiors: the search for cosiness, aesthetics and multifunctionality. A conversation with designer Dovilė Švilpienė about the changed relationship to living space during the pandemic.
According to interior designer Dovilė Švilpienė, the global pandemic has affected home interiors and lifestyles. Many people started working and studying from home during the quarantine period, creating a greater need for a comfortable and functional place to work and study in common spaces. The need for private space has also led to a different kind of interior design. More emphasis was placed on privacy and seclusion, which was manifested in the zoning of spaces and better acoustics.

During a pandemic, safety and maintaining hygiene standards became a priority. Antimicrobial surface coatings, easily accessible and easy-to-clean surfaces have therefore become relevant.
The morning-to-night life in the home has increased the need for spaces with multiple functions or purposes. Rooms can be adapted for both work and leisure, and functional, transformable furniture is becoming more popular.

Design professionals have started to provide services remotely, and virtual interior design tools are becoming increasingly popular to help people plan and change the interior of their homes.
